Assistant Professor of Environmental Modelling, Technische Universität Braunschweig, Langer Kamp 19c, 38106 Brunswick, Germany.

Affiliate Faculty, Earth and Environmental Sciences Area, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, One Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA 94720, USA.

I'm an Assistant Professor at {Technische Universität Braunschweig} (Brunswick, Germany) and an Affiliate Faculty at {Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory} (California, USA), working on computational methods for process-based environmental modelling. Before that, from 2018 to 2021, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Berkeley Lab and developed multiresolution meshing strategies and other workflows for integrated hydrology simulations. In the beginning of 2018, I worked on computational disaster management at the {RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science} in Kobe, Japan. From 2012 to 2018, I worked on multi-scale modeling techniques for hydrodynamics at my alma mater, the {Technische Universität Berlin}.

I co-develop SERGHEI (Simulation Environment for Geomorphology, Hydrodynamics and Ecohydrology in Integrated form), a portable high-performance code for environmental applications with a fully dynamic shallow flow core, currently at home at Forschungszentrum Jülich in Germany.

I was born in Berlin, but grew up in an Aegean fishing village—{Urla, Izmir}. Perhaps that's why I like to study water and wind. I currently live with the love of my life, {Anna}, in Berlin, Germany. We are happily married since 2017.
